It is early in the 15th Century and a strange procession, wending its way
up a mountainside on a small Greek island, is witnessed by a young goat herd, Ioánnis. He can see that something is being carried but has no idea what this covert ascension is all about.

As he grows up on the island he comes under the influence of an old priest who opens the young boy’s eyes to perceptions that are quite new only for all this to be disrupted by a cataclysmic event which pitches Ioánnis into a lifetime’s odyssey throughout the whole compass of the Near East, a journey of the mind which brings him, in the end, to a revelation and a startling conclusion.
